It may not surprise you if it is said a dress worn by Vivien Leigh in “Gone With the wind” has fetched a whopping amount of $137,000. But the decade old dress which was on the verge of being thrown out was brought by a collector at a mere amount of $20. This $20 dress made him rich when a bidder offered $137,000 for same at an auction.
According to James Tumblin, 'They were throwing it away' as it was of use.
"I saw this dress on the floor and a docent told me not to bother to pick it up, because they were throwing it away," he said.
Tumblin said he came across the Scarlett O’ Hara dress in the early 1960s while doing some research at a costume company.
"I asked if he would sell it to me," he said. "I had noticed there was a printed label saying Selznick International Pictures and 'Scarlett production dress' was written in ink."
The outfit, a gray color ensemble of two pieces was sold at an auction in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, according to Heritage auction.
Though the dress had worn out with time period, but that did not deter the bidder from making an unbelievable bid for the decade old dress.
