Britain’s Queen Elizabeth is facing first ever threat by her staff who are demanding an increase in their pay.

According to report, castle staffs are paid less than the living wage i.e as little as 14, 400 pounds, but are expected to carry out extra duties for no extra pay. Apart from their daily work, these staffs are involved in giving guided tours to paying visitors, acting as interpreters and first aiders.

Workers at Windsor castle have reasoned out ‘appalling’ low pay and allowance for going on strike.

The Public and commercial Services(PCS) Union which represents 120 to 200 staff at Windsor said the royal household has broken promises over giving extra allowance for extra duty to the staff.

The union will ballot its members between March 31 and April 14.

"These workers are loyal to their employer and absolutely committed to ensuring visitors are given the royal treatment," PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said.

"It is scandalous that staff are so appallingly paid and expected to do work for free that brings in money for the royal family," he added.

Windsor Castle is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world which attracts 1.1 million visitors. The amount collected by the visitors who come to visit the castle is used by the Royal Collection Trust for the maintenance of the royal palace and their contents.
