Powerball’s jackpot, one of the biggest ever offered by the multi-state lottery has climbed to $450 million on Sunday and is expected to surpass $ 450 million by Wednesday as no one claimed $394 million jackpot over the weekend which has sparked only more sales.

The winning numbers in Saturday's drawing were 5, 10, 21 34 and 58, lottery officials said, and the Powerball number was 33.

California’s biggest winner to date has been B. Raymond Buxton, who won $425.3 million with a ticket purchased in San Mateo County, said Alex Traverso, a spokesman for the California Lottery. Powerball plays are sold for $2 a piece in 44 states of the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Jackpot starts at $40 million and rises when there is no grand prize winner. A ticket has to match five regular numbers as well as a sixth ‘powerball ‘ number in order to claim the jackpot.

40% of the tickets purchase price goes to California’s schools, when the tickets are purchased in California.

The odds of winning the last Powerball drawing are less than 1 in 175 million. The jackpot winners receive either payments over 29 years or a small cash in bulk.
