Jagdeep Grewal, an Indian-American, has become the first female to be named in 166 years as the postmaster in Sacramento city of California, according to media reports.

According to American Bazaar report, a total of 1,004 employees will work under Jagdeep Grewal. The employees will process and deliver mail on 537 city routes in 94 rural routes, filling almost 20,000 post office boxes.

Jagdeep Grewal got bachelor’s and master’s degree from Punjab University. Her career began as a window clerk in 1988 in postal services. After five years from there, Grewal was promoted to manager post, who also served as a postmaster in Pacifica-Daly City, California.

Grewal was quoted as saying that, "It is only through joint effort and collaboration that we can truly meet our mission of providing extraordinary service while keeping costs down.”

The Indian-American said that she looked forward to work with Postal Service employees of Sacramento during a challenging time referring to decline in the usage of postal services because of technology developments like courier services and internet services.

Facing cash crunch, the US Postal Service reported recently a $586 million net loss earlier in 2015.
