Modi meets Rio Olympics-bound athletes!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian athletes who will represent the country at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

PM Modi also wished them luck at the function concluded at the Manekshaw Centre. He interacted individually with the sportspersons, and wished them luck for the August 5-21 Games.

The function was attended by a number of  dignitaries, including Sports Minister Jitendra Singh, All India Council of Sports (AICS) Chairman Vijay Malhotra, Sports Secretary Rajiv Yadav, Indian Olympic Association President N Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, HI Secretary General Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmed amd Hockey India president Narinder Batra.

The country is all set to send it’s biggest ever contingent to the Olympics this year with over 100 athletes. They have qualified in 13 sporting disciplines.

The Sports Ministry and the IOA are expecting over 110 athletes to represent the country in the Games.

The athletes who met the PM were Manavjit Singh Sandhu, shooters Jitu Rai, Heena Sidhu, K Srikanth, boxer Shiva Thapa, shuttlers PV Sindhu, long distance runners Sudha Singh and Lalita Babar among others.

“Great to meet our Honourable PM Shri @narendramodi ji..Thank you for all your support.jai hind????” boxer Shiva Thapa later tweeted.
