Countdown begins for Rio Games

The ‘Olympic flame’ was handed over to Brazil. It will burn in Rio in August 2016. At an Athens ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, featuring ancient Greek goddess costumes, Brazilian organizers took over the Olympic flame.

The 100-day countdown was launched as a beginning to the hosting of the First Olympic Games in South America. At the torch handover, the President of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Carlos Nuzman said that, "Rio is ready to make history."

President of Flow John Reid said, “As we join the rest of the world in celebrating the 100-day countdown to one of the biggest sporting events in the world, we are indeed excited at the prospect of delivering the highest quality HD broadcast across multiple platforms, enabling customers to view the games not only on TV but on their mobile devices.”

Many countries celebrated the 100-day countdown. As a mark to the countdown, traditional Haka dance was proposed by New Zealand athletes on an Auckland beach at sunrise. Many building across the globe were lit with special colors. Tokyo's municipal government headquarters was lit with Brazilian yellow and green.

Red-white-blue colors were lit at the Empire State Building in New York. Many countries have unveiled their Olympic uniforms, marking the count down. Thus, the world began celebrating the countdown for Rio Games!
