Reports from various Pakistani sources indicate that United States President Donald Trump is likely to travel to Pakistan in September. After visiting Islamabad, there are suggestions that Trump may also go to India, according to news agency Reuters, which cited local media that spoke with informed sources.

However, the foreign office of Pakistan has stated that it is not aware of any possible visit by the US President. If Trump follows through with his visit to Pakistan, it would mark the first time a US President has been there since George W Bush in 2006. The announcement of Trump’s potential visit comes after he met with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir at the White House. Trump has frequently asserted that he played a role in negotiating a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan after the two nations were involved in a four-day military standoff in May.

The relationship between India and Pakistan worsened following the Pahalgam attack on April 22. In response to this, India carried out counter-terrorism military actions against terrorist targets in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor. Pakistan retaliated with military action against Indian air bases, and the Indian Air Force responded by targeting air bases in Pakistan. A ceasefire agreement was reached between the two nations on May 10, and Trump disclosed this information on his social media site, Truth Social. Since that time, the US President has claimed that he was instrumental in brokering the ceasefire, a statement that India has denied. Earlier this month, Trump also stated that he had “stopped many conflicts,” mentioning specifically the situation between India and Pakistan. He suggested that the conflict could have escalated to a “nuclear level”. “We prevented many conflicts including one very significant one between India and Pakistan, and we did that over trade. We are in discussions with India as well as Pakistan,” Trump stated.

Nevertheless, the Indian Government has insisted that the ceasefire agreement was achieved through direct discussions between the Director General Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations.
