On Tuesday, a Los Angeles police officer has been convicted of assault for kicking and also punching a man during the South Los Angeles arrest which was caught on a video was spared jail time during his sentencing after fulfilling his end of an agreement made with the prosecutors.
Richard Garcia, aged 36, quietly struck the deal with prosecutors in the last year, pleading no contest to a felony charge of assault under the color of authority. The district attorney’s office has given Garcia the opportunity to avoid jail and also have his charge reduced to a misdemeanor if he the completed community service, followed all the laws, by staying away from the man he kicked and also donated $500 to a charity by this week’s hearing.
Superior Court Judge William N. Sterling has accepted the deal at a hearing in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom and also allowed Garcia to withdraw his plea to a felony plea and enter into a new no-contest plea to the misdemeanor assault charge.
