Los Angeles bid team 'solely focused' on 2024

Los Angeles’s Olympic bid leaders said that they remain “solely focused” on 2024 speculation amid speculation the runner-up at a key vote this year could offer the right to host the 2028 Olympics.

With only a few major cities willing to host the multi-billion-dollars price tag of staging the games, the prospect of the International Olympic Committee has raised possibly awarding both the 2024 and 2028 hosting rights at a crunch vote in Lima on 13th September.

Los Angeles 2024 and U.S. Olympic Committee officials brushed off questions about the possibility.

During the press conference with reporters on Thursday, LA 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman said following a meeting of the USOC's board said “The conversations with us are about 2024, that's the bid process we're engaged in and solely focused on."

USOC chairman Larry Probst said that officials are "100 % focused" on winning the bid for 2024.

“Update we got from the leadership team of the LA was entirely focused on 20242024 and staying the course and working harder and harder as we get closer to the actual vote.”

"I think we have 188 days to go. We're going to be on a lot of airplanes and spending a lot of time interacting with IOC members and we're going to work hard to win this bid."

The IOC's Evaluation Commission inspects bid cities before reporting back to members. It will visit LA in May this year before heading to Paris.

The sudden resignation of chairman Frankie Fredericks amid corruption allegations has thrown the commission into turmoil this week.

Swiss official Patrick Baumann has replaced Fredericks. LA 2024 chief Wasserman said that he was looking forward to working with Baumann.

Wasserman has known Patrick for half a dozen years. He thinks that he will do a great job chairing the evaluation commission.

Patrick will manage the process fairly and effectively for both cities and Wasserman is looking forward to working with Patrick.
