OpenAI is getting ready for a big change to ChatGPT as it tries to grow beyond its original chatbot focus and boost income in anticipation of a possible stock market launch. The upcoming adjustments will change ChatGPT into a wider platform that combines AI agents, coding features, image creation tools, and third-party services into one experience. These updates are expected to start appearing in the next few weeks through improvements to both the web and mobile versions of ChatGPT, while OpenAI also places more emphasis on business clients and paid services. According to a report from the Financial Times (shared by Android Authority), OpenAI aims to turn ChatGPT into a "superapp" that highlights AI agents and its coding service Codex as the largest redesign of the product so far. The report mentioned that the organization is reallocating its resources to focus on high-value business clients and to compete better against the AI company Anthropic. The updates are also designed to enhance the company’s chances of making money as it moves towards a potential public listing.
In this revamp, OpenAI is said to be changing the ChatGPT interface and adding new prompts and features that help users access services like coding tools, image creation, and chosen partner apps. According to the report, services like Canva and Booking.com will be among those partner platforms that will be more prominently featured. OpenAI increasingly sees ChatGPT as a way to access money-making products and services, rather than just being a simple chatbot for conversations. Internal talks mentioned in the report show that the company is focusing on AI agents that can handle tasks for users in both personal and work settings. The publication also noted that OpenAI's long-term aim is to create a system that can better grasp a user's intentions and assist with many tasks without needing a lot of prompts. This redesign is also set to give more attention to Codex, which is OpenAI's product focused on coding. The report highlighted that most Codex users are on paid plans, making it a key aspect of the company's revenue plan.
OpenAI's business sector is already a major source of income. The report stated that business clients make up about 40 percent of the company's earnings, and OpenAI anticipates this number will rise to 50 percent by the year's end. The new plans build on previous reports suggesting that OpenAI wants to make ChatGPT its main user platform by combining more services into one app. This development comes at a time when ChatGPT has surpassed 900 million active users weekly and has gained 50 million paying subscribers. Earlier reports stated that OpenAI was getting ready to secretly file for a potential initial public offering (IPO) in the US, although the company has not set a specific date for a listing.
